Alan J. Franklin, MD, PhD, is a 1990-graduate of the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences, formerly The Medical College of Ohio, in Toledo, OH. His postgraduate training includes his internship at Vanderbilt University (1993-1994) and ophthalmology residency served at Saint Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri (1994-1997), where he served as chief resident. He then completed his fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine in Iowa City, Iowa (1997-1999). He also obtained a PhD degree in molecular physiology and biophysics Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN (1996) and a BS degree in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University (1986). Dr. Franklin attained board certification in ophthalmology with the American Board of Ophthalmology.
