He then completed his fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine in Iowa City, Iowa (1997-1999). He also obtained a PhD degree in molecular physiology and biophysics Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN (1996) and a BS degree in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University (1986).
